Creating Impact in Charlotte in honor of Stop Food Waste Day
As we look ahead to Stop Food Waste Day on April 29, Compass Group is proud to reflect on a decade of leadership in driving awareness and action around food waste. For 10 years, Compass Group, and our committed partners, have championed this global movement, and just as importantly, together we’ve worked to turn our commitment into meaningful impact within our local communities. At our Compass Group North America Headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, the impact comes to life through our partnership with Feeding Charlotte.
While our teams work every day to prevent food waste at the source, we know that when surplus food is available, it can still serve a powerful purpose.
Alex Monteiro, Front of House Manager, at 24Hundred Marketplace shared:
“Although we are always trying to reduce our food waste, it is heartwarming to know excess food does not go to waste and helps those in need. Feeding Charlotte has connected us with the local community with our food.”
The meals prepared in our kitchens are distributed to local nonprofits serving neighbors facing food insecurity, including:
- For the Struggle, providing street outreach and meals to individuals experiencing homelessness
- New Outreach Christian Center, supporting low-income families in the Paw Creek community
- Ronald McDonald House, serving families of children receiving medical treatment
- Local shelters and transitional housing programs throughout the Charlotte region
Because these are fresh, ready to eat meals, they provide immediate nourishment with no additional preparation required, reaching individuals and families who need support that same day.
Rich Armenia, Executive Director of Feeding Charlotte has described our relationship as foundational to their mission, a testament not only to the meals donated but also to the volunteers and leaders from our teams who actively support their work.
This Stop Food Waste Day, we celebrate what is possible when sustainability and community commitment come together, reducing waste and nourishing our neighbors, one meal at a time.
