Who we are
Founded in 2017 by Compass Group USA, Stop Food Waste Day is now a globally recognized movement uniting people around the world to take action on food waste.
For a decade, Compass Group has led the fight against food waste by turning awareness into action and everyday choices into measurable impact. Stop Food Waste Day educates and inspires practical behavior change, empowering our teams, engaging our clients, and motivating our guests to waste less at work and at home.
Food waste is not only a moral issue—it is a major contributor to climate change. Wasting food also wastes the energy and resources used to grow, transport, and prepare it, while food sent to landfill generates methane, a potent greenhouse gas.
More than a single day, Stop Food Waste Day reflects who we are and how we operate. As we mark our 10th anniversary, we celebrate our progress and reaffirm our commitment to reducing food waste across all areas of our business, with Stop Food Waste Day continuing to serve as a powerful catalyst for change.
Stop Food Waste Day has become a global movement, and a core part of our culture at Compass Group. Our chefs and frontline teams understand the opportunity that we have to empower the communities we serve with knowledge, tips, and tricks to reduce food waste; not only in our cafes but in their homes and beyond.
No one ever has the intention to waste food, which is why at Compass we strive to make every day #StopFoodWasteDay. By shining a light on this issue, and tackling it together, we can make such a meaningful impact on our global food system.
